Did you know you can grow your own mushrooms?
I remember reading somewhere about mushroom growers and dark beds or caves. It is so easy to grow oyster mushrooms right in your own yard. Oyster mushrooms get their name from the way they grow, but they also have a slight sea food smell when cooked. The texture has even been compared to that of an oyster. The oyster mushroom grows in a cluster and because it is easily identified it is considered one of the safest mushrooms for beginners. The mushroom coloring can be light tan to brownish gray. There are some inedible mushrooms that might resemble an oyster mushroom but none that are poisonous. In the wild oyster mushrooms are found from late summer to early winter. With the best times to find them in late October to December.
Growing oyster mushrooms at home is as simple as drilling a hole in a log and stuffing a little piece of fresh mushroom in the hole.
